Kapalabhati
Kapalabhati - “Shining Skulls Breath”
Begin with me and modify the pace if need be.
Continue a daily practice, starting with three sets with 30 “pumps” of the belly and building up to 60-80 “pumps”.
Apply Kumbhaka after each set, holding the breath on the inhale for 6-10 seconds or longer.
Second set try Kumbhaka on the exhale for 6-10 seconds.
Sit in meditation between sets for 1-2 minutes to feel the sensation presented.
If you are holding longer than 10 seconds, start applying the Bandhas.
If you are not familiar with the Bandhas, hold for 10 seconds and release slowly.
This pranayama is an active heating breath, when the mouth is closed and breathing through the nose. The technique involves active exhalation and passive inhalation as you snap your low belly in rapidly. This breath is designed to move energy from the base of the spine up and out through the crown of the head. This pranayama will help with your meditation, as it clears away any illusions (Maya) so that you can see more clearly and be more present.
*Not to be mistaken for the Kundalini kriya “Breath of fire”, the breath of fire is forceful on the exhalation with a passive inhale BUT the inhale and exhale are equal in length.
